A Friday night drive ended in total heartbreak for two local families after a violent wreck cut two lives short. The tragic accident happened along a bustling stretch of Route 6, turning a normal weekend evening into a massive emergency scene.
Tristan Bedient, a 34-year-old from Acushnet, was behind the wheel of a Toyota Camry heading eastbound. Sitting right next to him was 51-year-old Kate Aldrich from New Bedford. Neither of them would make it to their destination that night.

Around 7:35 p.m., their sedan collided heavily with another vehicle. The impact was incredibly violent, leaving the Camry with catastrophic damage right in the middle of a busy commercial corridor.
Witnesses quickly called 911 as multiple police departments rushed to the scene. Officers from Dartmouth and Westport, alongside state troopers, found both vehicles sitting wrecked on the highway.
First responders pulled Tristan and Kate from the crushed car and rushed them to a local hospital. Doctors tried everything they could, but the injuries were simply too severe. Both were pronounced dead shortly after arriving.
The second vehicle involved in the crash held two occupants. Miraculously, both walked away from the violent impact with only minor injuries and stayed at the scene with investigators.
Now, state police are leading a deep investigation into what exactly caused the fatal crash. For now, local commuters are left staring at a scarred highway, and two towns are mourning a pair of lives lost in an instant.
