It was supposed to be a weekend of celebration for a local Ohio family. Instead, it turned into a complete nightmare. Scott Wilkes, a 54-year-old resident of West Salem, was killed in a violent two-vehicle crash on Friday afternoon. The tragic accident happened just one day before his birthday, leaving his loved ones completely devastated.
The collision took place in Bronson Township around 4:30 p.m. State troopers report that Wilkes was driving east on Dublin Road. When he reached the intersection at New State Road, he failed to yield at the posted stop sign. That is when another vehicle slammed right into his car.

The impact of the crash was incredibly severe. A 45-year-old man from Norwalk was driving the southbound vehicle that struck Wilkes. The heavy force of the collision pushed both of the vehicles completely off the roadway. Emergency responders rushed to the scene to pull the drivers from the wreckage.
Paramedics hurried Wilkes to a nearby hospital as fast as they could. Tragically, medical staff could not save him, and he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. The Norwalk driver managed to survive the wreck, walking away with only minor injuries.
Investigators later revealed a crucial safety detail about the crash. They stated that neither driver was wearing a seatbelt when the collision happened. The Ohio State Highway Patrol is still actively looking into the incident to figure out all the remaining factors.
Back home, the Wilkes family is struggling to process the sudden loss. His only daughter and his three young grandchildren are completely heartbroken. They remembered him as a man who lived life to the absolute fullest and loved the outdoors. He was deeply passionate about working on cars, drag racing, and classic rock n roll.
To help cover the unexpected funeral expenses, the family has set up a GoFundMe page. The daughter shared that her dad carried immense warmth and kindness every single day. Now, his family hopes to give him the beautiful farewell he truly deserves.
