A quiet Wednesday afternoon in Gillette turned into a complete nightmare for the family and friends of Jordan Callender. The 32-year-old local man lost his life in a horrific two-vehicle wreck that has left the entire community reeling from the shock. It happened right in the middle of a busy workday, cutting a vibrant life short in an instant.
Around 2:30 p.m. on July 8, Jordan was driving his 2021 GMC Sierra down South Garner Lake Road. He was heading south, passing right through an active construction zone. Everything seemed completely normal until his truck suddenly drifted across the center line.

On the other side of the road, a massive red vacuum truck was heading northbound. The two vehicles collided with an incredibly violent impact. The crash caused massive damage to Jordan’s pickup truck, trapping him inside the wreckage as nearby workers rushed to see what happened.
Police officers got to the scene first and jumped straight into action, desperately trying to save Jordan’s life. Firefighters arrived shortly after and went to work with heavy tools to pull him out of the crushed pickup. They managed to get him to a local hospital, but it was simply too late. Campbell County Coroner Paul Wallem later pronounced him dead.
Meanwhile, the occupants of the vacuum truck managed to escape the nightmare with their lives. The 50-year-old driver and his 39-year-old passenger were checked out by medical staff right there at the scene. Fortunately, both men walked away without any major injuries, though the emotional shock is bound to linger.
Local folks are completely heartbroken as they try to process the loss of a young guy with so much ahead of him. Jordan’s sudden passing leaves a massive, agonizing void for everyone who knew him. Friends are sharing memories of his kind spirit and the lasting impact he made on the people in his circle.
As the community rallies around the grieving family, investigators are still trying to figure out exactly what went wrong on that stretch of road. For now, loved ones are focusing on holding onto the good times and supporting each other through the darkest days they have ever faced.
