It was supposed to be just another quiet Tuesday night in downtown Providence. But for forty-year-old Gerald “Jerry” Blair, a casual walk turned into an absolute nightmare. Jerry was out on the Michael S. Van Leesten Memorial Bridge when a group of people suddenly ambushed him. Now, his family and friends are left trying to process a loss that makes zero sense to anyone who knew him.

The whole thing went down right around 10:30 PM on July 14. Emergency workers rushed to the popular pedestrian bridge after getting frantic calls about a stabbing. When officers arrived on the scene, they found Jerry on the ground. He was bleeding heavily from multiple deep stab wounds straight to his chest.

Paramedics didn’t waste a single second getting him into an ambulance. They flew down the road to Rhode Island Hospital while doing everything they could to keep him alive. Sadly, the injuries were just too severe. Despite the best efforts of the doctors and first responders, Jerry passed away at the hospital.

His family is completely broken by the news. Jerry’s cousin, Dawn Rabah, spoke out publicly about the crushing grief they are all feeling right now. She described the attack as totally devastating for their whole circle. Dawn is begging anyone who knows anything about that night to please do the right thing and talk to the police.

What makes this whole situation even harder to swallow is where it actually happened. The Van Leesten pedestrian bridge is usually considered one of the safest, most beautiful spots in the entire city. It is a major hub for tourists and locals who just want to catch a nice view of the water. Nobody ever expects a violent crime to happen there.

Now, the police are looking into a very disturbing lead. Providence Police Major David Lapatin confirmed that detectives are actively hunting for a group of juvenile suspects. Authorities believe a pack of teenagers, possibly running around with one or two adults, are the ones who swarmed Jerry while he was walking all by himself.

Right now, detectives are working around the clock to stitch this case together. They are pulling footage from the security cameras on the bridge and talking to multiple witnesses who were in the area. The police admit they still have no idea what the motive was, leaving a family to mourn a man whose life truly mattered.
