A dark cloud is hanging over the Batavia community today. Folks are trying to process the incredibly sudden loss of Robert Dinka. The 47-year-old Batavia resident was full of life, but everything changed in an instant on Thursday night. A devastating motorcycle wreck cut his journey short, leaving his family and friends in absolute shock.

It happened on July 9, 2026, out in Stonelick Township. The summer evening air was warm, the kind of night made for a long cruise. Robert was out on his 2015 Harley-Davidson Street Glide, soaking in the open road. He wasn’t alone either, as 41-year-old Jennifer Birchfield was riding right there along with him.

They were heading eastbound on U.S. Route 50 as the clock ticked past 10:00 p.m. Everything seemed fine until they hit the stretch of road near milepost 9. That is where a sharp curve caught the motorcycle off guard. Preliminary reports show that the bike just couldn’t quite make it through the bend.

In a split second, the Harley drifted right off the edge of the pavement. It careened into a nearby ditch and flipped over violently. The force of the impact was completely unforgiving, tossing both riders as the machine overturned in the darkness.

First responders got the call around 10:06 p.m. and rushed to the scene with lights flashing. Crew members from the Stonelick Township Fire Department and EMS did everything they possibly could. Sadly, the injuries Robert sustained were just too severe. The local authorities had to pronounce him dead right there at the crash site.

Jennifer Birchfield survived the initial impact but was left with very serious injuries. Paramedics stabilized her as best they could before rushing her to a local hospital. Back in her hometown of Mt. Orab, neighbors are holding their breath and sending up endless prayers for her recovery.

Right now, the Ohio State Highway Patrol is trying to piece together exactly what went wrong. They had plenty of help at the scene from ODOT, the Clermont County Coroner, and Tarvin’s Towing. As the investigation moves forward, the folks in Batavia are holding onto the good memories they shared with Robert.
