Thursday night started like any other warm summer evening for 47-year-old Robert Dinka. He was out doing what he loved most, riding his 2015 Harley-Davidson Street Glide. But a sudden, tragic turn of events on a dark stretch of highway cut his journey short, leaving his family and friends completely devastated.
The heartbreaking scene unfolded just after 10:15 p.m. in Stonelick Township. Robert was heading eastbound on U.S. Route 50, enjoying the night air with a passenger riding on the back. For reasons that investigators are still trying to figure out, the motorcycle failed to make it through a curve in the road.
State troopers reported that the heavy bike drifted off the right side of the pavement. It hit a ditch hard and flipped completely over. The impact was violent, and the quiet night was quickly shattered by emergency lights and sirens as first responders rushed to the scene.
Medics did everything they could the moment they arrived. Despite their rapid response, Robert had sustained injuries that were simply too severe to survive. He was pronounced dead right there on Route 50, marking a devastating end to the ride.
His passenger, a 41-year-old woman from Mt. Orab, survived the initial wreck but faced a rough night. She suffered serious injuries and needed urgent care at a trauma center. Emergency crews initially called for a medical helicopter to airlift her, but bad weather stepped in.
Unfavorable flight conditions grounded the chopper, forcing paramedics to pivot quickly. They loaded her into an ambulance and rushed her to a nearby hospital by ground instead. Her current condition remains a major concern for loved ones waiting for updates.
Back home in Batavia, the awful news of Robert’s passing spread fast through the neighborhood. He was a man well-known for his everyday kindness, his easygoing nature, and the deep love he had for his family. Now, local friends are leaning on each other, offering prayers and trying to process a massive loss that feels entirely surreal.
